The second movement evokes the merging of a river with the sea, a metaphor for the strength and unity found in love and belonging. The third movement’s text about a rising flame illustrates the journey of growth amidst love and pain, emphasizing resilience and the pursuit of wholeness. This movement also incorporates elements of South African traditional music and dance, including call-and-response and clapping. Finally, the fourth movement’s transformation of metal in a molten core signifies the culmination of change and the shaping of a new identity.
